During a recent family road trip, I came across this swing, rusted by time yet still hanging on, casting its own shadow. The scene made me pause and reflect. You know, one of those moments when you’re not distracted by the next destination or the playlist in the car.
I recently listened to a podcast that talked about the ‘art of noticing’. Life’s essence often lies in the ordinary, the everyday things that we take for granted. The swing, the shadow, the sunlight filtering through – these aren’t just parts of a public park. They’re reminders of a time when we’d stop and notice, really notice, the world around us.
When did we last feel amazed like kids? When even small things like a rock, shadow, or leaf seemed interesting? When did we stop wondering about simple stuff? When did we stop asking questions about the ordinary things?
Questioning and observing are foundational. Thinking deeply means asking questions and really looking at things. We don’t always need amazing stuff; everyday things can be beautiful too. To me, this swing isn’t just something to sit on. It reminds me to pay attention and notice more.
Maybe sometimes we should be like kids on a swing – just enjoy the moment and see the simple beauty around us. Because often, it’s the simple things that make us happiest and help us understand better.
