Innocence

A child. Looking over a fence, eyes full of wonder and innocence. This photo, taken in Bali, reminds me that children’s innocence is delicate and special.

Kids often suffer from adults’ selfishness and cruelty. In wars, natural disasters, and daily life, children face the results of grown-ups’ choices. Since the attack by Hamas on Israel and Israel’s response in Gaza, pictures of innocent kids caught between the battles have filled our screens. These images show how people can justify bad actions for what they believe is right.

For believers, how can God’s goodness fit with innocent pain? This deep question has troubled many for years. The tragedy of a child’s death is worse when they die not for what they’ve done, but for what they stand for. They are used to scare and hurt their families.

The child in the photo, with pure eyes, reminds me of every child I’ve seen in my travels. Even in tough situations, they find happiness in small things and can still laugh and play.

Kids show what our society is like. If we don’t look out for them, who will? It’s our job as adults to make sure they grow up safe, keeping their innocence alive.

In the end, this photo is a powerful reminder of the beauty and fragility of children’s innocence. Despite the world’s challenges, we must do our best to guard this innocence. It’s our duty, and the best gift we can give to the next generation.
